Morpheme ɨ-/g-

Form: ɨ-/g-
Type: grammatical morpheme
Language: Ikpeng
Source: Alves Chagas 2013: 195
Cognate set(s):

Comments: also POSS. The /g/ is unexpected, since Ikpeng /g/ usually comes from *k. The related Arara form is j-/ɨ(w)-. Meira and Franchetto 2005: 175 suggest a diachronic development whereby an epenthetic [ɣ] is inserted after ɨ-, with subsequent deletion of ɨ- and fortition to /g/. Such a development is attested in some Tupi-Guarani languages.

Functions:

1S (in the main construction)

3>1 (in the main construction)
